Welcome to the ADHD Clinic at UNCG

The ADHD Clinic is a clinical specialty service in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies within the School of Health and Human Sciences at UNCG. The ADHD Clinic offers evidence-based assessment and treatment services for UNCG students.  All clinical services are provided by licensed psychologists.

Effective April 1, 2015, the ADHD Clinic will no longer be accepting new child or non-UNCG adult referrals for evaluations or other clinical services. This change in referral policy allows us to better meet the needs of college students with ADHD, who recently have become a specialty focus of our clinical and research activities. We will, however, continue to accept UNCG student referrals.

Assessments for College Students

Psychological evaluations are available to address various referral questions, including:

  • Determining if ADHD is present
  • Evaluating secondary learning, behavioral, and emotional problems that often accompany ADHD
  • Establishing a treatment plan/evaluating the effectiveness of ongoing treatment
  • Determining eligibility for accommodations

To address these questions, the ADHD Clinic uses a comprehensive, state-of-the-art assessment approach, following the model outlined in Assessing Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (Anastopoulos & Shelton, 2001). This includes use of:

  • Computer-assisted diagnostic interviews/semi-structured background interviews
  • Clinical interviews
  • Self-report rating scales
  • Rating scales completed by spouses/significant others for self-referred college students
  • Computer-assisted testing of ADHD symptoms
  • Clinic-based observations
  • Medical and educational record reviews

Treatment for College Students

Evidence-based treatments are used in combination to address the multiple needs of individuals with ADHD. These research-supported treatment services include:

  • Cognitive-behavioral treatment for college students and adults
  • Individual, group, and family therapy
  • Consultation

  • Clinical services are covered by some but not all insurance companies
